Are Christians Writing “Edgy” for the Wrong Reasons?

Sometimes in our quest to usher art in to the world, we artists can cross the line. Certain projects involving urine and crucifixes come immediately to mind as potential candidates.

But what about the importance of uncensored expression? What is a creative to do in this distracted world where sometimes shock value is the only thing that grabs an audience’s attention? As a person of faith — and a writer — I am constantly struggling with these questions.

I’m listening to Coldplay’s song “Fix You” as I write this. Every writer has something that they love to write about – a passion that drives them, a favorite subject that fascinates them. I think that I like writing anecdotal stories that call to action. I like real-life incidents that are told in a conversational manner that leave the reader with a challenge. What’s your favorite writing subject?
