Writing Tips to Make You Better

If you want to become a better writer, get ready to do some work. It won’t happen overnight, and it won’t happen because you want it to. You’ll need to practice.

So here are some tips, articles, resources to help you get started — to become not only a better writer, but a better communicator. Why?

Because you have a story to tell, and the world needs to hear it.

So you want to be a writer?

It begins with believing you already are one. So let’s start there.

A writer is a writer when he says he is.

Next, let’s talk about how to become a better writer. We’ll begin with the basics:

  • Writing is simple, but not easy.
  • Before you should expect a large audience, you’re going to have to get better.
  • Before you  get better, you’re going to have to practice.
  • You can’t practice without discipline. It takes time and perseverance.
  • The best way to practice is to perform, to write for real.
  • You’re going to have to get over your excuses and do the work.
  • There will be resistance; you’re just going to have to type through it.

Before getting started

Before you begin writing, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Why do I want to write? What passion will guide me?
  2. Who’s my audience? Who am I writing for?
  3. What’s my message? How do I want to say it?
  4. What will be required of me? What will I have to sacrifice?

Once you count the cost and make the decision to begin, it’s time to start writing.
